7 Ways to Energize Your Morning Routine

Thursday, March 3, 2022 – Trying to get up and energized in the morning can be a challenge. Believe me, we get it! We thought you might appreciate — as we did — these seven tips for snapping out of your sleepiness and starting the day energized.

You know when you start watching the clock at 2 pm and start yawning at 3 pm that it’s been a long day at work. When you have low energy, you lose focus, you get moody and you are less productive.

Studies show that if you develop a morning routine that gets you off to an energetic start, it will improve your overall mood all day long. Here are 7 ways to go from dragging yourself out of bed in the morning to bouncing out of the door, ready for the day.

1. Get Up Earlier

It sounds counterintuitive: you’re sleepy and having a hard time waking up in the morning, how does getting up earlier help? By setting your alarm for an hour earlier, you can slowly wake up until, eventually, you are only snoozing for 15 minutes or 30 minutes after the first alarm. That gives you more time in the morning so that you are not running around like a chicken with its head cut off to get out of the door.

2. Stretch First Thing

One way to get energized in the morning is with a good stretch first thing. You can do yoga stretches or simply stand up and yawn and stretch naturally. It gets your blood flowing and will wake you up.

3. Do Some Simple Exercises

You don’t have to do a 30-minute workout routine or even hit the gym. When people think exercise, they often go too big and kill their motivation. All you need to do is ten minutes of jumping jacks, leg lifts and pushups. It’s simple, quick and easy to do as soon as you wake up. It is by far the best way to energize your morning routine.

4. Eat an Energy-Boosting Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but if you are eating a Pop Tart or calling coffee breakfast, you are missing that all-important meal. Take the time to eat a breakfast that boosts energy like oatmeal, eggs and toast or a bagel and fruit.

5. Give Yourself a Break (rather, several)

When you’re at work and you’re away from your desk, you may feel like everybody is watching you and judging you. Who cares? For your health, you need to get up throughout the day and step away from your desk. Go for a walk. Go read the paper. Do something that gives your mind a break several times a day.

6. Write Out Your One Thing Every Day

If you write out a to-do list with everything and the sun on it, you won’t accomplish any of it. One way to start your day energized is to focus on one big, fun or meaningful thing you want to accomplish. Write it out or text it to yourself as a note. It will get you excited about that one task and motivate you to get up and out.

7. Hit the Sack for 8 Hours

If you don’t get enough sleep, waking up early is not going to make you feel energized. Get 8 hours of sleep every night. If you can’t get a solid 8, get 2 hours here and 2 hours there until you get to 8 hours.
